Georg Solti (1912-97)

Georg Solti (1912-97) was born in Budapest, but became later an UK citizen. He made the first ever complete studio recording of Der Ring des Nibelungen (with the Vienna Philharmonic). The recording is now somewhat dated, with exaggerated effects and lack of transparency, but remains a classic.

The video is from a documentary of this recording. It is interesting to watch Georg Solti's spastic conducting and compare ut to the way Hans Knappertsbusch conducts.

Birgit Nilsson is singing Brünnhilde in the ending of Götterdämmerung.
