Hans Knappertsbusch (1888-1965)



Hans Knappertsbusch (1888-1965) conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in Die Walküre (Vorspiel, act 1). Knappertsbusch ("Kna") is mostly associated with Parsifal which he did every year in Bayreuth between 1951 and 1964 (except 1953).

Hans Knappertsbusch appeared 95 times in Bayreuth. He did one Ring cycle in 1951 and 1956 and two Ring cycles in 1957 and 1958. In 1951, 1952 and 1960 he did Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. In 1955 he did three performances of Der fliegende Holländer.
