If I could choose…

If I could choose director, conductor and singers for the 2013 Ring at Bayreuth, I'd probably go for these:

Conductor: Christian Thielemann
Stage director: Stefan Herheim
Sieglinde: Eva-Maria Westbroek
Brünnhilde: Nina Stemme
Wotan: René Pape
Alberich: Andrew Shore
Mime: Gerhard Siegel

It is highly unlikely that Daniel Barenboim is interested in returning to Bayreuth to do the Ring for four years. Otherwise it would have been great to have him back.

No one would like to see Waltraud Meier back in Bayreuth more than I, but is it likely? Will she still sing Sieglinde in 2013? Is her Brünnhilde ready for Bayreuth? Will Bayreuth let her just do the Walküre Brünnhilde?

I took the best from the current Tankred Dorst Ring and added a couple of newcomers.

Or is Thielemann too conservative for Herheim?

Who would you have chosen for your Ring Dream Team?

It doesn´t matter whether Thielemann is too conservative for Stefan Herheim - he doesn´t have ANY say in the matter.

What matters is whether Herheim is conservative ENOUGH for Christian Thielemann...

I don´t think a Waltraud Meier Brünnhilde in 2013 is a good idea.

I agree completely on Rene Pape as Wotan. For the rest:

Sieglinde: Karita Mattila. Or Waltraud Meier.
Siegmund: Jonas Kaufmann.
Hunding/Hagen: Stephen Milling
Alberich: Bryn Terfel.

Siegfried and Brünnhilde I´ll have to think about, but under no circumstances will I pick Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde....

Director: Lars von Trier (no-one said the list has to be realistic..)

Conductor: Claudio Abbado (again - no-one said the list had to be realistic...)

What about Ben Heppner as siegfreid? too mature, and out of fashion for taht role already??

i agree with The choice of Terfel as Alberich, since his wotan is fine, but after litening that glorious finale of Walkure sung by Pape, im so excited to listen him as Wotan.
Terfel is such a good actor that could make Alberich an interesting choice

Gonzalo: Eva Wagner-Pasquier sure loved Heppner's Siegfried in Aix, so who knows? But does he have the acting skills necessary if they should choose a producer a little bit more creative than Tankred Dorst?

Heppner as Siegfried would be very nice!

But wonderful and extremely interesting would be to have Anselm Kiefer design the sets... probably very unlikely to happen!

Barenboim would be the ideal choice... but I would like to hear Kent Nagano (his Baden-Baden Lohengrin was amazing...).

I am also not sure about Stemme as Brünnhilde... but one never knows.
Meier or Mattila as Sieglinde is definitely a fantastic choice for the dream team...
Director: Lehnhoff (also Lars von Trier... why not?)
