Your greatest Wagner experience in 2010?

Happy New Year to all Wagner lovers! My greatest Wagner experiences in 2010 were the new productions of Tannhäuser (Stefan Herheim in Oslo) and Lohengrin (Hans Neuenfels / Andris Nelsons in Bayreuth).

What was your greatest Wagner experience in 2010?

Best for me is inscenation of Meistersingern in Leipziger Oper (November 2010) and bayreuther Siegfried in august 2010.

The Herheim Parsifal at Bayreuth and the first two installments of the Paris Ring with Jordan.

There was also the great Tannhauser in London in December.

The Ring in Budapest during the Wagner Festival - specifically the Gould/Foster Siegfried. Great question for debate/discussion!

Die Walkure with V.Kowaljow, E.Herlitzius in Semperoper Dresden and Parsifal with Gould/Domingo in Vienna.

A rather poor Wagner year for me: Meistersinger and Lohengrin in Berlin (both DOB), Parsifal in Vienna (the one with Gould AND Domingo) and what could been a highpoint, Tristan in Zürich. But Meier cancelled, (understand why when I heard Haitink), Seiffert cacelled so that was more or less a disaster. So best Wagner 2010 for me was the Lohengrin in Berlin; Meier fantastic, Heppner did not collapse (totally) and Schonwandt did a great job. Best music I( heard was 3B: Beethoven, Bruckner & Barenboim in June in Berlin.

What about the Welsh National Opera Meistersinger in Cardiff? And the glorious Hallé Gotterdammerung with Mark Elder in Manchester? Both were magnificent in their different ways. They were my British Wagner bests for 2010.

Here's another vote for the WNO Meistersinger.

Bryn Terfel, for the first time, convinced me that he was a world class Wagner singer.
